Special Seminar

Dr. Xiangming Xiao, Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space, University of New Hampshire (http://remotesensing.unh.edu) will be visiting OU Aug. 26-28 and presenting a seminar at 3:30 pm on Monday, August 27 (N202 in Sarkeys Energy Center). The title and abstract of his talk follow:

Global Land Remote Sensing: Its Opportunities and Challenges for Earth System Science and Global Health.

Our human society in the 21st century faces a number of grant challenges, including global environmental changes and global health. Health of human, animals and ecosystems are closely coupled with environments (both natural and human-made). Earth observations from satellites in the 21st century provide unprecedented amounts of data and information for our society to develop better understanding of the Earth and to monitor its dynamics. This seminar will highlight the role of global land remote sensing for Earth system science, and provide case studies of satellite-based modeling of terrestrial carbon fluxes. This seminar will also introduce the role of global land remote sensing for global health, and provide case studies of satellite-based eco-epidemiology for infectious diseases (highly pathogenic avian influenza virus).

If you would like to meet Dr. Xiao, please contact Ms. Lauren Browder in Geography
